[칼럼/CTN]박순신 충남 총괄본부장= 세상의 어두운 구석을 찾아 따뜻한 등불을 밝히는 일은 결코 쉽지 않다.

더욱이 날카로운 비판과 공정한 보도를 생명으로 삼는 언론인이, 한편으로는 묵묵히 이웃을 위해 몸을 낮추고 헌신하기란 더더욱 흔치 않은 일이다.

지난 6월 19일, 아산터미널웨딩홀에서 열린 「2026 충청남도 자원봉사자 Awards」에서 대한민국 최고 인터넷신문 CTN의 가금현 대표이사가 '충청남도 자체 명예훈장'을 수훈했다는 소식은 우리 사회에 깊은 울림과 감동을 주고 있다.

이번 명예훈장은 단순히 '오래 봉사했다'는 사실을 치하하는 상이 아니다.

충청남도자원봉사센터의 엄격한 규정에 따라, 역대 자원봉사 누적 시간 10,000시간 이상을 기록한 자에게만 허락되는 최고 영예의 자리다.

하루 2시간씩 단 하루도 거르지 않고 무려 14년이 넘는 세월을 채워야만 도달할 수 있는 수치다.

공식적으로 인증된 기록이 이 정도이니, 가금현 대표가 그동안 보이지 않는 곳에서 흘린 땀방울과 숨은 노력은 이미 일만 시간을 훌쩍 넘어선 지 오래다.

가 대표는 국제로타리 3620지구 서산한서 로타리클럽 창립을 시작으로, 현재 (사)한국청소년보호연맹 충남연맹장, 충남청소년유해환경감시단협의회장, 국제봉사단체 러브인캄코 회장을 맡아오며 청소년 보호와 소외계층 지원의 최일선에서 발로 뛰었다.

청소년들이 유해 환경에 노출되지 않도록 감시·계도 활동을 이끌고, 소외된 청소년을 위한 교육·지원 사업에 앞장서 온 그의 행보는 지역사회의 든든한 버팀목 그 자체였다.

가금현 대표는 수상소감으로 자원봉사는 우리 사회를 움직이고 변화시키는 가장 큰 힘이자 나 스스로를 채우는 가치 있는 일이라고 했다.

이 지점에서 우리는 가금현 대표가 보여준 '언론인으로서의 높은 위상'과 'CTN의 독보적인 사회공헌 철학'에 주목해야 한다.

흔히 언론은 사회의 감시자이자 비판자로 여겨진다. 하지만 가 대표는 비판에만 머무르지 않고, 스스로 따뜻한 나눔의 실천자가 되어 사회적 약자의 목소리를 대변했다.

대한민국 최고 인터넷신문 CTN 신문방송을 이끌며 공익적 가치를 최우선으로 두고 따뜻한 나눔의 문화를 전파한 그의 행보는, 현대 언론인이 나아가야 할 새로운 사명과 위상을 몸소 정립해 보였다.

CTN이 단순한 뉴스 매체를 넘어, 사회를 맑고 건강하게 만드는 '사회공헌의 아이콘'으로 자리매김한 이유가 바로 여기에 있다.

펜으로 세상을 바꿀 수 있다면, 행동으로는 세상을 구원할 수 있다. 가금현 대표는 펜과 행동, 이 두 가지 강력한 무기로 충남 전역에 온기를 불어넣었다. 이번 1만 시간 명예훈장 수훈은 그의 헌신에 대한 당연한 결실이자, CTN이 걸어갈 공익적 행보에 더욱 큰 힘을 실어줄 이정표가 될 것이다.

- The Social Resonance of CTN CEO Ka Geum-hyun’s ‘Medal of Honor’ -
It is by no means an easy feat to seek out the dark corners of the world and light a warm lamp. Moreover, it is even rarer for a journalist, whose lifeblood is sharp criticism and fair reporting, to humbly bow and dedicate themselves to their neighbors. On June 19th, at the "2026 Chungcheongnam-do Volunteer Awards" held at the Asan Terminal Wedding Hall, the news that Ka Geum-hyun, CEO of CTN—Korea’s leading internet newspaper—received the "Chungcheongnam-do Independent Medal of Honor" brought deep resonance and touching inspiration to our society.
This Medal of Honor is not merely an award commending someone for "volunteering for a long time." According to the strict regulations of the Chungcheongnam-do Volunteer Center, it is the highest honor bestowed only upon those who have accumulated over 10,000 hours of volunteer service. It is a milestone that can only be reached by filling more than 14 years, without skipping a single day, for two hours every day. Since this is the officially certified record, the sweat and hidden efforts poured out by CEO Ka in unseen places have long surpassed tens of thousands of hours.
Starting with the foundation of the Seosan Hanseo Rotary Club in International Rotary District 3620, CEO Ka has been working on the front lines of youth protection and supporting the underprivileged, currently serving as the President of the Chungnam Federation of the Korea Youth Protection League, the Chairman of the Chungnam Council for Monitoring Harmful Environments to Youth, and the President of the international volunteer organization Love in Kamco. His footsteps, leading monitoring and guidance activities to protect youth from harmful environments and spearheading educational and support projects for marginalized youth, have been the very backbone of the local community.

At this juncture, we must pay attention to the "high status as a journalist" and the "unrivaled social contribution philosophy of CTN" demonstrated by CEO Ka.
Journalism is often regarded as a watchdog and critic of society. However, CEO Ka did not stop at criticism; he became a warm practitioner of sharing, representing the voices of the socially vulnerable. Leading CTN Newspaper & Broadcasting, Korea's top internet newspaper, and prioritizing public value to spread a culture of warm sharing, his actions have personally established a new mission and status that modern journalists should pursue. This is precisely why CTN has established itself as an "icon of social contribution" that makes society clear and healthy, going beyond a simple news medium.
If the world can be changed with a pen, the world can be saved through action. CEO Ka infused warmth throughout Chungnam with these two powerful weapons: the pen and action. The receipt of this 10,000-hour Medal of Honor is a natural fruit of his dedication and will serve as a milestone that lends greater strength to the public interest activities that CTN will walk in the future.
