Capturing the Soul of Hanam on Canvas: 'Four Seasons of Gyeonggi' Project Kicks Off
[CTN Culture & Arts = Reporter Geum-hyun Ga] A meaningful project aimed at recording the beautiful natural landscapes, history, and cultural heritage of Gyeonggi-do through art has taken place in Hanam City.
The outdoor sketching event for "Four Seasons of Gyeonggi - Beautiful Mountains and Rivers Exhibition," hosted by the Gyeonggi Province Branch of the Korean Fine Arts Association (Chairman Dong-kyun Cho) and organized by the Hanam Branch (Director Jeong-hee Song), was successfully held from Friday, June 19 to Saturday, June 20.
Under the theme "Hanam, Where History and Modernity Harmonize," the event brought together around 100 artists from 31 municipal chapters of the Korean Fine Arts Association in Gyeonggi-do. The participants explored and sketched key historical sites and natural landmarks that define Hanam's past and present, including:
Historical & Cultural Sites: Gusan Holy Ground, Iseongsanseong Fortress, Gwangjuhanggyo Local Confucian School, and Hanam History Museum.
Natural & Modern Landmarks: Paldang Dam, Misa Rowing Stadium, and Hanam Union Tower.
The artists directly experienced Hanam's rich heritage, reimagining it through their unique creative lenses to shed new light on the city's growth and identity.
Moving from city to city within Gyeonggi-do every year, the "Four Seasons of Gyeonggi" serves as a vital platform for fostering harmony, friendship, and creative exchange among regional artists. Rather than a simple landscape exhibition, this project functions as an artistic archive. Artists across various genres—including Western painting, Korean traditional painting, watercolor, and literati painting—interpreted the same region through their individual artistic styles.
Dong-kyun Cho, Chairman of the Gyeonggi Province Branch of the Korean Fine Arts Association, expressed his anticipation:
"We hope that established and rising artists from the Gyeonggi region can vividly capture the scenery and seasonal transitions on canvas, allowing Hanam's charm to be fully appreciated through art. I also hope this serves as a rejuvenating experience for the artists' future creative endeavors."
The artworks, infused with the vitality of the artists who stepped out of their studios to breathe in the local atmosphere, are scheduled to be presented to the public at an exhibition in Hanam in November 2026.
