[대구/CTN]이수현 기자= 추경호 대구시장이 8월 7일과 8일 열리는 축제를 앞두고 "칠성야시장 야맥페스티벌은 무더위에 지친 시민들에게 시원한 여름밤을 선사하는 대표 축제다"라며 "특히 올해는 지역 구단인 삼성라이온즈의 선전으로 시민들의 응원 열기가 뜨거운 만큼, 함께 경기를 즐길 수 있도록 프로야구 생중계도 마련했다. 많은 시민과 관광객들이 야시장을 방문해 함께 응원하며 즐거운 추억을 만드시길 바란다"라고 밝혔다. 대구광역시는 칠성야시장 일원에서 '2026 칠성야시장 야맥페스티벌'을 개최한다고 발표했다.

대구시에 따르면 올해로 5회째를 맞는 이번 행사에서는 스포츠와 미식, 공연, 체험이 어우러진 복합문화축제를 표방한다. 버스킹 공연과 시민 참여 이벤트, 라이브 콘텐츠 'Tonight, 칠성야시장' 송출 등이 진행될 예정이다.

특히 올해는 삼성라이온즈와 두산베어스의 프로야구 경기를 대형 전광판으로 생중계하며, 전자바이올린과 브라스 밴드가 함께하는 '칠성 BEAT CLUB' 공연과 맥주 빨리 마시기, 맥주 소믈리에 체험, 수박 빨리 먹기 대회 등을 선보인다. 아울러 달등 만들기, 형광 탈 만들기 등 가족 단위 체험 프로그램과 스테이크, 닭꼬치, 팥빙수 등 다양한 먹거리 부스도 함께 운영된다. 시는 이번 행사를 앞두고 노후화된 빔프로젝터와 몽골텐트를 교체하고 디자인 조명을 추가 설치하는 등 방문객 편의 시설을 정비했다고 덧붙였다.

이처럼 무더운 여름철 야간 시간을 활용해 야시장 공간을 활성화하고 시민들에게 볼거리와 먹거리를 제공하는 것은 지역 야간관광 이미지를 제고하고 방문객 유입을 도모하는 조치로 평가된다.

다만 기존 프로야구 중계나 수박·맥주 먹기 대회처럼 어디서나 볼 수 있는 기성 콘텐츠에 얹혀 가면서 노후 텐트 교체 수준의 시설 개선을 대단한 치적처럼 홍보하는 것은 사후약방문식 생색내기 행정이라는 비판을 피하기 어렵다. 이틀짜리 요란한 행사로 착시 효과를 내는 데 그치지 않으려면, 일회성 이벤트성 축제를 넘어 상시 야시장 상권의 경쟁력을 높일 위생 관리, 특화 메뉴 개발, 지속 가능한 야간 문화 인프라 확충 등 실질적인 대안이 마련되어야 할 것으로 보인다.
