[여수/CTN]하성매 기자= 여수시 관계자가 8월 6일부터 9일까지 열리는 행사를 앞두고 "행사 기간 여수를 찾는 관광객들이 합리적인 가격과 친절한 서비스를 경험할 수 있도록 물가안정 관리와 가격표시제 점검에 최선을 다하겠다"라며 "업소에서도 바가지요금 근절과 건전한 가격질서 확립에 적극 동참해 주시길 바란다"라고 밝혔다. 여수시는 '2026년 섬의 날' 행사를 앞두고 여수엑스포장 일원의 물가안정과 건전한 가격질서 확립을 위해 현장점검과 계도활동을 강화하는 등 물가안정 특별관리에 총력을 기울이고 있다고 발표했다.

여수시에 따르면 행사장을 찾는 관광객과 시민들이 안심하고 이용할 수 있는 소비환경을 조성하기 위해 숙박 및 음식업소를 비롯해 편의점, 카페 등 개인서비스업소를 대상으로 가격표시제 이행 여부와 물가안정 실태를 집중 점검하고 있다.

시 담당 부서는 지난 7월 30일 행정안전부와 합동으로 여수엑스포장 인근 숙박 및 음식업소를 대상으로 현장점검을 실시해 가격표시제 이행 여부를 확인하고 바가지요금 근절을 당부했다. 이어 8월 3일에는 엑스포장 인근 편의점과 카페를 대상으로 소비자가 가격을 쉽게 확인할 수 있도록 가격표시 준수를 요청했다. 아울러 시 누리집 내에 '바가지요금 신고센터'를 운영해 누구나 신고할 수 있도록 조치했으며, 행사 기간에도 지속적인 현장점검을 이어갈 계획이라고 설명했다.

이처럼 대형 지역 행사를 앞두고 외지 방문객이 몰리는 주요 관광지의 바가지요금을 단속하고 가격표시제 준수를 유도하는 것은 불공정 거래 행위를 예방하고 지역 이미지 훼손을 막기 위한 조치로 평가된다.

다만 대형 행사를 불과 며칠 앞두고 보여주기식 현장점검 몇 번과 계도활동을 벌이며 물가를 완벽히 통제하는 것처럼 포장하는 것은 사후약방문식 생색내기 행정이라는 비판을 피하기 어렵다. 행사철마다 반복되는 바가지요금 잔혹사를 끊어내려면, 단기적인 현장 방문이나 유명무실한 신고센터 운영에 그칠 것이 아니라 평시 가격 모니터링 정례화와 부당 요금 업소에 대한 실질적인 행정제재 수단 마련 등 강력한 대안이 구축되어야 할 것으로 보인다.

To break the recurring cycle of seasonal price gouging, Yeosu City must establish concrete policy alternatives, such as implementing year-round systematic price tracking and enforcing enforceable legal sanctions against non-compliant businesses.
