[남원/CTN]최동주 기자= 남원시 산림녹지과 관계자가 현장 관리 방침을 전하며 "계속되는 폭염과 가뭄으로 녹지를 관리하는 데 어려움이 있지만 시민들이 쾌적한 환경에서 산책하고 쉴 수 있도록 나무와 꽃을 꾸준히 살피고 물을 주겠다"라며 "폭염이 이어지는 동안에도 도심 녹지를 잘 지킬 수 있도록 현장을 꼼꼼히 관리하겠다"라고 밝혔다. 전북특별자치도 남원시는 연일 이어지는 폭염과 가뭄 속에서 도심 가로화단과 산책길의 나무 및 꽃을 보호하기 위해 긴급 급수 작업에 착수했다고 발표했다.

남원시에 따르면 최근 계속된 폭염과 적은 강수량으로 시내 곳곳의 가로화단과 수목에 수분 부족 현상이 발생하고 있다.

이에 산림녹지과는 시민들의 휴식 공간을 보전하기 위해 급수차를 동원해 기온이 비교적 낮은 오전과 오후 시간에 맞춰 물을 주고 있다. 주요 급수 대상은 주요 도로변 가로화단의 철쭉, 홍가시나무, 치자나무를 비롯해 요천변 산책길의 수국 군락지 등이다. 시는 폭염이 장기화될 경우 급수 횟수를 늘리는 등 현장 여건에 맞춰 대응 체계를 강화할 방침이라고 덧붙였다.

이처럼 한여름 고온 건조한 날씨로 말라죽을 위기에 처한 도심 수목과 산책로 화단에 급수차를 투입해 시의적절하게 수분을 공급하는 것은 도심 녹지 자원을 보존하고 경관을 유지한다는 측면에서 필요한 조치로 볼 수 있다.

다만 폭염이 연례화되는 상황에서 급수차를 동원해 일시적으로 물을 뿌리는 수동적 대응만 펼치며 생색을 내는 것은 근본적인 가뭄 대책이 되기 어렵다. 일회성 급수차 투입에 의존하는 임시방편을 넘어, 폭염과 가뭄에 강한 기후변화 대응형 수종으로 점진적으로 전환하고 요천변과 주요 화단에 자동 관수 시스템을 설치하는 등 상시 관리 체계가 갖춰져야 할 것으로 보인다.

Critics argue that relying solely on manual water trucks as a recurring response to annual droughts borders on superficial administrative showmanship. Rather than depending on temporary water truck runs, the city needs practical measures, such as replacing vulnerable plants with drought-resistant species and installing automated drip irrigation systems along key walking trails.
