인천시에 따르면 지난 6월부터 네이버, 카카오, 티맵 등 민간 지도 플랫폼 내 492개 지명의 반영 여부를 대조 조사했다.
점검 결과 누락되거나 오류가 있는 지명정보에 대해 현행화를 요청하여 당초 40%대에 머물렀던 지명 반영률을 92%까지 올렸다고 설명했다. 시는 이번 정비가 119 긴급 출동 시 신속한 신고 지점 파악에 기여할 것으로 기대하고 있다. 이어 미추홀구 '남부역삼거리'처럼 사라진 시설명이 남았거나 삼거리에서 사거리로 바뀌한 곳, 이름 없는 교차로 및 '고속종점지하차도' 등 현실과 맞지 않는 지명 자체를 변경하는 고도화 작업에 착수한다고 덧붙였다.
이처럼 신도시 개발 및 도로 개편으로 달라진 지형 정보를 민간 지도 플랫폼과 연동하고 헷갈리는 교차로 명칭을 현실에 맞게 정리하는 것은 시민 이동 편의와 응급 상황 대응을 위해 반드시 필요한 기초 행정이다.
다만 도시 개발이 수년째 진행되는 동안 사라진 역명이나 사거리로 바뀐 도로 명칭을 방치해 두었다가, 민간 앱 데이터 수치 몇 개 올린 것을 거창한 안전 성과인 양 내세우는 것은 뒤늦은 뒷북 행정이라는 비판을 피하기 어렵다. 민간 플랫폼 모니터링 수준에 만족할 것이 아니라, 실제 현장에 방치된 도로 표지판과 이정표를 즉각 교체하고 각 군·구별 무명 교차로에 대한 전수 조사를 조기에 완료하는 현장 중심의 실질적 정비 작업이 우선되어야 할 것으로 보인다.
