정책연대 이선영 천안시민사회단체협의회 집행위원장은 “후보별 정책 접근 방식과 우선순위의 차이가 확인된 만큼 이번 자료가 유권자들이 각 후보의 시정 철학을 비교하고 천안의 미래를 책임질 적임자를 판단하는 데 유용한 기준이 되길 바란다”며 “선거가 끝난 이후에도 당선자가 약속한 정책을 제대로 이행하는지 철저히 모니터링할 것”이라고 밝혔다.
이번 정책 질의 결과 공개는 단순히 후보자의 답변을 나열하는 것을 넘어 유권자가 중심이 되는 정책 선거 문화를 정착시키는 이정표가 될 것이다. 정책연대는 선거 당일인 내달 3일까지 SNS 기반 시민 참여 캠페인을 지속하며 유권자들의 매서운 감시를 독려할 방침이다. 후보들이 약속한 답변이 향후 천안시정의 실질적인 변화로 이어질 수 있을지 지역 사회의 엄중한 시선이 쏠리고 있다.

[Cheonan/CTN] Reporter Kang Hyun-su = The administrative philosophies of mayoral candidates vying for Cheonan's future have been placed under sharp scrutiny by civil society. The '6.3 Local Election Cheonan Civil Society Policy Solidarity' officially disclosed the response results on the 13th regarding the '10-field citizen policy proposals' delivered to major candidates ahead of the upcoming Cheonan mayoral election.
This policy inquiry carries significant weight as it involved the joint participation of 105 organizations and 6 alliances, including the Cheonan Emergency Action on Climate Crisis, to represent a wide range of voices in the local community. The proposal precisely targets 31 detailed items directly related to the lives of Cheonan citizens, spanning from climate crisis response and urban spatial structure improvement to environmental conflict response, housing, care, and disability policies.
According to the analysis of the responses, the three candidates showed distinct differences in their perspectives on issues and methods of resolution. Candidate Jang Ki-su of the Democratic Party of Korea expressed his intent to accept all agendas proposed by the Solidarity, including the creation of a climate response fund and ensuring mobility rights for the disabled, showing a strong will for change. On the other hand, Candidate Park Chan-woo of the People Power Party expressed sympathy for the necessity of the policies but took a "careful review" stance, emphasizing that Cheonan City's financial conditions and administrative procedures must be considered first, focusing on realistic feasibility.
Candidate Lee Seong-jin of the Reform Party suggested efficiency-oriented alternatives that maximize the use of existing organizations and functions. Rather than the indiscreet establishment of public institutions, Lee emphasized phased implementation and infrastructure optimization. Regarding the Dong-myeon industrial waste landfill project, a major local conflict, Candidates Jang and Lee accepted the Solidarity's opposition and drew a clear line, while Candidate Park took a principled stance that collecting resident opinions and consulting with related agencies must come first.
Lee Seon-young, executive chairperson of the Cheonan Civil Society Organization Council, stated, "As differences in policy approaches and priorities among candidates have been confirmed, we hope this data serves as a useful standard for voters to compare philosophies and judge the right person for Cheonan's future." She added, "We will strictly monitor whether the winner fulfills the promised policies even after the election."
The disclosure of these results goes beyond listing candidate answers; it will be a milestone in establishing a policy-centered election culture where voters are the priority. The Policy Solidarity plans to continue an SNS-based citizen participation campaign until the election day on the 3rd of next month, encouraging keen surveillance by voters. The local community is watching closely to see if the promises made by the candidates will lead to substantive changes in Cheonan's administration.
