후보자 초청 토론회서 민선 8기 ‘인구·투자’ 성과 강조…미래 100년 비전 제시

[정치/CTN]가금현 기자= 오성환 국민의힘 당진시장 후보가 21일 당진시청 대강당에서 열린 ‘당진시장 후보자 초청 토론회’에서 민선 8기의 압도적인 성과를 바탕으로 한 ‘30만 자족도시’의 청사진을 제시했다.

오 후보는 이날 토론회에서 “4년 전 시민들께 약속했던 ‘잃어버린 8년을 되찾겠다’는 다짐을 현실로 증명해냈다”며 “매일 아침 7시부터 밤 10시까지 현장을 누비며 당진의 변화를 이끌어왔다”고 소회를 밝혔다.

그는 민선 8기 주요 성과로 약 19조 원 규모의 투자 유치와 50년 만의 인구 17만 명 돌파를 꼽았다. 오 후보는 “지역소멸 위험지역이었던 당진이 이제는 고용률 전국 1위, 출산율 충남 연속 1위의 역동적인 도시로 탈바꿈했다”며 “특히 지난해 11월, 4년 전만 해도 1만 명 가까이 격차가 났던 서산시의 인구를 추월한 것은 당진의 기적 같은 변화를 보여주는 상징적 사건”이라고 강조했다.

아울러 20년간 표류하던 자사고 설립 및 종합병원 유치 문제를 현대제철과의 협의를 통해 해결한 점과, 10년간 방치됐던 도비도·난지도 개발에 1조 7,000억 원 규모의 투자를 이끌어낸 성과를 피력했다.

오 후보는 당진의 미래 성장 동력으로 ‘민자 유치’를 강조하며 수소연료발전소(4조 원), 경제자유구역 및 K-모빌리티 물류단지 조성을 핵심 과제로 제시했다.

다가오는 석탄화력발전소 폐쇄(2029년~2037년 단계적 폐쇄) 위기에 대해서는 “지방세와 인구 감소에 선제적으로 대응하기 위해 연구용역을 진행 중”이라며, “정의로운 전환 특구 지정과 노동자 재교육·재배치 시스템을 통해 지역 경제의 충격을 최소화하겠다”고 해법을 내놨다.

이외에도 소상공인을 위한 특례보증 340억 원 지원 및 온누리상품권 골목상권 확대, 서울시 안심통장 제도 벤치마킹 등의 민생 공약과 함께 교육·의료·공원 인프라 확충을 통한 ‘충남 최고 정주도시’ 건설을 약속했다.

오성환 후보는 “지금 당진은 위대한 변모의 중심에 서 있다”라며 “행정 전문가로서의 경험과 강력한 추진력을 바탕으로 당진의 미래 100년 기반을 반드시 완성하겠다”고 지지를 호소했다.

Furthermore, he highlighted his success in resolving the long-standing issues of establishing an autonomous private high school and attracting a general hospital through discussions with Hyundai Steel, tasks that had been stagnant for nearly 20 years. He also noted the revitalization of the Dobido and Nanjido development project, which had been abandoned for a decade, through a 1.7 trillion won investment.
Pointing out that private investment is key to regional development, Oh selected the hydrogen fuel power plant (4 trillion won), the Economic Freedom Zone, and the K-Mobility Logistics Complex as the core engines for Dangjin's future growth.
Regarding the impending closure of coal-fired power plants (gradual closure from 2029 to 2037), he proposed a solution: "We are currently conducting research to preemptively respond to the decrease in local tax revenue and population. We will minimize the impact on the local economy by designating a 'Just Transition Special Zone' and establishing a retraining and redeployment system for workers."
In addition, to support small business owners, he promised to expand the special guarantee to 34.0 billion won, extend the use of Onnuri gift certificates to alley markets, and benchmark Seoul's 'Ansim Bankbook' system to reduce financial burdens. He also pledged to build the finest residential city in Chungnam by expanding education, medical, and park infrastructure.
Candidate Oh appealed for support, saying, "Dangjin is now entering a stage of grand transformation. With my accumulated experience and driving force as an administrative expert, I will surely complete the foundation for Dangjin's next 100 years."
