[정치/CTN]강현수 기자 = 충남 민주·진보 교육감 단일 주자인 이병도 후보가 성년의 날을 앞두고 청년들과의 격의 없는 소통을 통해 지역의 대학 자원을 공교육과 연결하고, 청년들의 지역 정착을 유도하는 메가 트렌드급 교육 선순환 구상을 내놓았다.

이 후보는 지난 14일 상명대학교 천안캠퍼스를 방문해 천안 지역 대학생 및 대학원생들과 함께 충남 교육의 미래를 논의하는 심도 있는 정책 간담회를 개최했다. 이 후보가 주창한 ‘도민 교육주권 시대’의 핵심 주체인 청년들의 목소리를 직접 청취하기 위해 마련된 이날 행사에서, 이 후보는 학생식당에서 학생들과 함께 점심 식사를 하며 미래 교육에 대한 허심탄회한 대화를 나눴다.

이 후보는 청년들이 제안한 대학 연계 프로그램 확대 요구에 깊이 공감하며 ‘충남형 대학생 교육참여 플랫폼’ 구축을 약속했다. 천안·아산에 밀집된 풍부한 대학 자원을 초·중·고 교실과 연결해 대학생들이 AI·소프트웨어(SW) 교육, 과학실험, 독서 멘토링의 파트너로 참여하도록 하겠다는 구상이다. 특히 참여 대학생에게는 장학금 지급과 학점 인정 등 실질적인 인센티브를 제공해 청년이 지역에 정착할 수 있는 튼튼한 발판을 만들겠다고 확약했다.

졸업 후 지역 정착을 망설이게 하는 저출산 및 인구 감소 문제에 대해서도 단호한 비전을 제시했다. 이 후보는 소규모 학교의 기계적 통폐합을 지양하는 대신 ‘농산어촌 거점학교’를 적극 육성하고, 소수 학생에게 유리한 개별화·맞춤형 교육과 AI 기반 학습 지원 시스템을 도입해 교육 격차를 원천 차단하겠다고 강조했다. 이를 통해 10년, 20년 뒤에도 안심하고 아이를 키울 수 있는 ‘장기 교육 로드맵’을 완성하겠다는 복안이다.

또한 대학 공간을 입시 목표가 아닌 탐색의 공간으로 전환해 달라는 제안을 수용해 ‘충남형 대학캠퍼스 진로체험 모델’을 공약했다. 지역 대학 학과별 전공 체험을 연 2회 이상 정례화하고, 천안·아산의 지역적 강점을 살린 AI·디지털·공학 분야 실습 프로그램을 집중 개발해 대학의 인적·물적 인프라를 충남 교육의 최대 자산으로 전환하겠다는 구상이다.

간담회 말미에 이 후보는 자신의 ‘인쇄공 소년’ 시절과 39년 교육 인생을 회고하며 청년들에게 “성공은 남이 정한 기준이 아닌 내가 가치 있다고 느끼는 일을 꾸준히 하는 것”이라는 따뜻한 격려를 건넸다. 지난 2025년부터 상명대 천안산학협력단 초중고 미리배움연구소 특임교수로 활동 중인 이 후보에게 동료 교수와 연구원들이 직접 자필로 쓴 응원 글을 전달하며 훈훈함을 더했다.

지역의 대학 자원을 공교육의 핵심 동력으로 수용하고 청년들의 정주 여건을 교육 신뢰로 해결하려는 이 후보의 이번 약속은, 교육 자치가 어떻게 지역 소멸 위기의 해법이 될 수 있는지를 보여주는 모범적 사례가 될 것으로 보인다.

On the 14th, Candidate Lee visited the Cheonan Campus of Sangmyung University to hold an in-depth policy meeting discussing the future of Chungnam education with local university and graduate students. Arranged to directly listen to the voices of youth—a core pillar of the "Era of Citizens' Educational Sovereignty" pursued by Lee—the candidate shared lunch with students at the school cafeteria and engaged in candid conversations about future education.

Deeply empathizing with the students' request to expand university-linked programs, Lee promised to establish a "Chungnam-style University Student Educational Participation Platform." He also presented a firm vision regarding the low birth rate and population decline that make young people hesitate to settle down after graduation. Lee emphasized that instead of mechanical integration and closure of small-scale schools, he would actively nurture "Rural/Agricultural/Fishing Hub Schools," introducing individualized, customized education and AI-based learning support systems advantageous for small student bodies to fundamentally block educational gaps. Through this, he plans to complete a "long-term educational roadmap" where parents can safely raise children even 10 or 20 years from now.

Furthermore, accepting a proposal to transform university spaces into areas for exploration rather than mere entrance examination goals, he pledged the "Chungnam-style University Campus Career Experience Model." The plan involves regularizing major experiences for each department at least twice a year and intensively developing practice programs in AI, digital, and engineering fields utilizing the regional strengths of Cheonan and Asan, transforming the human and material infrastructure of universities into the greatest assets of Chungnam education.

At the end of the meeting, Lee reflected on his past as a "printing press boy" and his 39-year educational career, offering warm encouragement to the youth: "Success is not a standard set by others, but continuously doing what you feel is meaningful." Lee, who has been serving as a special professor at the Pre-Learning Research Institute for Elementary/Middle/High Schools under the Sangmyung University Cheonan Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation since 2025, received handwritten support messages from fellow professors and researchers, adding warmth to the scene.

Lee's commitment to absorbing regional university resources as a core driver of public education and solving the youth settlement issue through educational trust is expected to serve as an exemplary case showing how educational autonomy can provide a solution to the crisis of regional extinction.
