[천안/CTN]강현수 기자 = 천안시 성거읍에 위치한 천흥사가 기후위기와 경제 한파 속에서 이중고를 겪는 지역 내 취약계층 아동들의 배움과 올바른 성장을 지원하기 위해 자비의 손길을 전격 내밀었다.

시는 지난 19일 전통사찰 천흥사로부터 복지 사각지대 아동들을 위한 성금 300만 원을 전달받았다고 밝혔다. 이번 성금 기탁에 따라 천흥사는 천안시와 천안시복지재단이 지역 아동들의 안전망 구축을 위해 공동으로 추진 중인 대표적인 민관 협력 사업인 우리아이 수호천사 되어주기 모금 캠페인의 공식 후원자로 이름을 올렸다.

천흥사는 매년 부처님오신날을 기념해 일회성 행사에 그치지 않고 지속 가능하고 진정성 있는 지역 나눔 문화를 몸소 실천해 오고 있다. 지난 2024년에도 천안시복지재단에 100만 원을 흔쾌히 후원하는 등 소외된 이웃을 위한 자비행을 꾸준히 전개해 왔다. 시는 이번에 기탁받은 성금을 시 복지재단을 통해 전액 관내 취약계층 아동들의 교육비와 맞춤형 복지 사업비로 신속하게 집행할 정교한 계획을 수립했다.

이흥영 천흥사 대표는 "지혜와 자비의 정신이 온 누리에 가득한 부처님오신날을 맞아 우리 지역의 어려운 환경에 처한 아동들을 위해 작은 보탬이 될 수 있어 매우 기쁘다"라며 "앞으로도 종교적 울타리를 넘어 지역사회와 상생하고 호흡하는 자비로운 나눔 활동을 중단 없이 지속해 나가겠다"라고 뜻을 전했다.

윤은미 천안시 복지정책국장 역시 "지역의 미래인 아이들을 위해 매년 따뜻하고 헌신적인 나눔을 실천해 주시는 천흥사 관계자분들께 진심으로 감사드린다"라며 "천안시는 기탁된 성금이 단 1원도 낭비되지 않도록 도움이 절실한 아동들의 공평한 교육 기회 보장과 복지 사각지대 해소를 위해 가장 소중히 사용하겠다"고 화답했다.

천안시의 유니세프 아동친화도시 인증 획득은 행정의 성과를 넘어 이 같은 지역사회의 촘촘한 온정과 연대 의식이 뒷받침되었기에 가능했다. 종교계가 선제적으로 나서 사각지대 아동의 학습인권을 보장하고 나선 이번 성금 기탁은 단순한 기부를 넘어 지역 공동체의 복지 안전망을 바닥에서부터 견고하게 지탱하는 강력한 주춧돌이 될 것으로 확신한다.

[Cheonan/CTN] Reporter Kang Hyun-su = Cheonheungsa, a traditional temple located in Seonggeo-eup, has officially extended a helping hand of mercy to support the learning and healthy growth of vulnerable children in the region suffering from economic difficulties.

The city announced that it received 300 million KRW in donations from Cheonheungsa Temple on the past 19th for children in welfare blind spots. With this donation, Cheonheungsa officially registered as a sponsor for the "Be a Guardian Angel for Our Children" fundraising campaign, a representative public-private cooperative project jointly promoted by Cheonan City and the Cheonan Welfare Foundation to establish a safety net for local children.

Cheonheungsa Temple has personally practiced a sustainable and sincere local sharing culture every year to celebrate Buddha's Birthday, rather than stopping at a one-off event. The temple has consistently developed acts of mercy for marginalized neighbors, including willingly donating 1 million KRW to the city's welfare foundation in 2024. The city established a precise plan to swiftly execute the entire amount of this donation through the city's welfare foundation for educational expenses and customized welfare project costs for vulnerable children in the jurisdiction.

Lee Heung-young, representative of Cheonheungsa Temple, stated, "I am very pleased to be able to make a small contribution to children in difficult environments in our region to celebrate Buddha's Birthday, a day when the spirit of wisdom and mercy is filled across the whole world." He added, "We will continuously push forward sharing activities that coexist and breathe with the local community, moving beyond religious barriers without interruption."

Yoon Eun-mi, Director of the Cheonan City Welfare Policy Bureau, responded, "We express our sincere gratitude to the officials of Cheonheungsa Temple for always practicing warm and dedicated sharing for our children, the future of our region." She added, "Cheonan City will ensure that not a single won of the donated funds is wasted, using it most preciously to guarantee fair educational opportunities for children in desperate need and to clear welfare blind spots."

Cheonan City's acquisition of the UNICEF Child-Friendly City certification was made possible because it was backed by such meticulous warmth and sense of solidarity within the local community. This donation, where the religious sector proactively stepped up to protect the learning human rights of children in blind spots, goes beyond simple charity to serve as a powerful stepping stone that firmly sustains the local community's welfare safety net from the bottom up.
