"Farmers' Hearts Won't Wait"... Cheonan Farmers Deliver 'Ultimatum' for Survival Rights to Mayoral Candidate
Delivering signatures of 2,368 citizens and presenting 8 core demands... urging for 7% budget security and 1.2 million KRW farmer allowance.

[Cheonan/CTN] Reporter Kang Hyun-su = Cheonan farmers have taken to the streets, demanding a firm commitment from a mayoral candidate to protect their survival rights at the edge of a cliff caused by the climate crisis and population decline.
The Cheonan Farmers' Association visited the campaign office of Cheonan mayoral candidate Park Chan-woo on the 13th to deliver eight core demands for overcoming the agricultural crisis and guaranteeing farmers' survival rights, along with a signature list containing the earnest wishes of 2,368 citizens. This move is interpreted as a solemn determination from the field to rebuild the crumbling foundations of local agriculture, going beyond mere policy suggestions repeated during election seasons.
The demands presented by the Farmers' Association center on allocating more than 7% of the main budget to agriculture, establishing the Cheonan Integrated Food Support Center, and opening four public local food direct stores. In particular, they strongly urged for the expansion of tangible welfare that directly touches farmers' lives, such as paying an annual farmer's allowance of 1.2 million KRW and realizing lunch costs for rural villages. Furthermore, they called for strengthening administrative expertise, including the enactment of regulations on agrivoltaics and the establishment of an agricultural policy advisor reporting directly to the mayor.
Candidate Park Chan-woo, upon receiving the signatures, listened to the farmers' voices and promised policy reflection. Park responded, "I fully understand the desperate feelings of farmers suffering double hardships due to the climate crisis and the decline in the farming population," and added, "I will closely review the demands and do my best to realize Cheonan as a future agricultural city where agriculture and rural areas are revitalized."
The delivery of these demands is deeply meaningful in that farmers directly exercised their rights as masters of municipal administration, going beyond slogan-like pledges. Keen surveillance by the community is necessary to see if the policy reviews promised by the candidate lead to actual administration and provide a new breakthrough for Cheonan agriculture.
