이로써 맹정호 후보 캠프는 단순한 당내 결속을 넘어 중도보수 진영까지 아우르는 본격적인 외연 확장에 성공했다는 평을 받고 있다.
이날 지지 선언 참가자들은 “지금 서산은 경제와 민생, 인구 문제까지 복잡한 위기에 직면해 있다”며 “지금은 정쟁과 갈등이 아니라 시민 통합과 실용의 리더십이 절실히 필요한 시점”이라고 목소리를 높였다.
이어 이들은 “맹정호 후보는 특정 진영에 갇히지 않고 오직 시민의 삶을 중심에 두는 실용 행정을 보여왔다”며 “현재의 위기를 극복할 가장 경쟁력 있는 후보라고 판단해 뜻을 모으게 됐다”고 지지 배경을 밝혔다.
이에 대해 맹정호 후보는 “정당과 이념의 벽을 넘어 서산의 미래를 걱정해 주시는 시민들의 뜻을 무겁게 받아들이겠다”며 “오직 통합과 협치의 정신으로 서산의 위기를 당당히 극복해 나가겠다”고 화답했다.
외연 확장과 더불어 맹 후보는 각계각층의 전문가와 현장 활동가 42명으로 구성된 정책특보단을 임명하며 '정책 선거'로의 정면돌파를 예고했다.
이번 정책특보단에는 대학교수 등 학계 전문가뿐만 아니라 노동조합 관계자, 농업인 등 다양한 직종의 현장 전문가들이 대거 합류했다. 이들은 향후 시민들의 삶이 투영된 현장의 목소리를 가감 없이 전달하고 대변하는 역할을 맡게 된다.
맹정호 후보 캠프 관계자는 “풍부한 현장 경험과 촘촘한 전문성을 갖춘 정책특보들과 함께 시민들이 피부로 체감할 수 있는 현실성 높은 정책을 다듬어 갈 것”이라며 “서산의 미래 발전과 민생 회복을 이끌 실질적인 정책 조언을 기대하고 있다”고 덧붙였다.

In tandem with expanding his base, Candidate Maeng signaled a direct focus on a "policy-driven election" by appointing a team of 42 policy advisors consisting of experts and grassroots activists from all walks of life.
This advisory group features academic experts, such as university professors, alongside a wide range of field practitioners, including labor union representatives and agricultural workers. Moving forward, they will play a vital role in voicing and advocating for the authentic perspectives of everyday citizens.
An official from Candidate Maeng’s campaign added, "Together with these policy advisors who possess rich field experience and meticulous expertise, we will refine highly realistic policies that citizens can truly feel.
