Dangjin Mayor Candidate Oh Seong-hwan Unveils 'Culture, Tourism, and Sports' Roadmap: "Completing a Prestigious and Healing City"
Sub-heading 1: Incorporates extensive community-friendly pledges in alignment with the 9th elective term's vision, the "1-5-100 Master Plan."
Sub-heading 2: Predicts a boost in citizens' quality of life with the establishment of a municipal art museum, a youth adventure center, and the introduction of a "Sports Points System."
[CTN Reporter Geum-hyun Ga] Candidate Oh Seong-hwan for Mayor of Dangjin has officially unveiled a detailed action plan for the 'Culture, Tourism, and Sports' sectors, aimed at enhancing the future value of Dangjin and providing healing in citizens' daily lives, as reported by Reporter Keum-hyun Ga of CTN, South Korea's leading online news outlet.
This announcement is part of the "1-5-100 Master Plan," the core vision for the 9th elective term driven by Candidate Oh. The plan centers on leaping forward as South Chungcheong Province's top cultural city and expanding a dense, everyday sports infrastructure.
First, large-scale infrastructure pledges were presented to elevate Dangjin's cultural status and revitalize the local economy. Building on the achievement of surpassing 500 million KRW in performance ticket revenue for the first time in 2025, the candidate plans to drive the "completion of South Chungcheong Province's top cultural city" to meet the growing cultural demands of citizens.
Key projects include:
Accelerating the construction of a Municipal Art Museum right next to the Dangjin Culture & Art Center (equipped with six exhibition halls, a storage facility, and educational rooms).
Creating regional musical art halls by utilizing urban regeneration projects and abandoned local warehouses.
Upgrading the Dance Festival to a nationwide event with customized stages and differentiated competition categories, operated via an online/offline hybrid model.
Furthermore, investments will be heavily funneled into building a sustainable ecosystem for the visual content industry—utilizing landmarks like Sapgyoho Hahm-sang Park, Waemok Village, and Myeoncheon Eupseong Walled Town as drama filming locations and archiving them into a signature database—and establishing a Youth Adventure Center featuring extreme and digital sports zones to promote youth health, entertainment, and social capabilities.
Detailed, community-friendly sports policies were also laid out to diversify leisure activities and boost health.
To expand sports facilities, the plan includes:
Supplying tennis courts and other facilities in Chaeun Park.
Developing 27-hole park golf courses each in the southern district and Hyundai Steel Park.
Building a massive sports park spanning approximately 180,000 square meters ($55,000text{ pyeong}$) on the riverside areas of Seonwu Bridge.
Constructing red clay walking paths based on demand surveys across towns and townships ($Eup, Myeon, and Dong$).
The "Sports Points System" is drawing particular attention. It is a program that awards Dangjin Love Gift Certificates (local currency) when citizens walk 7,000 steps a day or use public sports facilities. To support this, the city will develop its own health app and link it with the local currency system. Additionally, the "Our Neighborhood Corporate Gym" initiative will encourage local companies to open their gyms and sports fields to residents. Participating businesses will receive incentives such as facility maintenance subsidies and local tax reductions to foster a cooperative community spirit.
"Culture, tourism, and sports are fundamental and core areas most closely linked to citizens' daily lives," Candidate Oh's camp emphasized. "Moving beyond simple development, we will reshape the map of Dangjin through a comprehensive overhaul that satisfies the high cultural standards of our citizens and fills the gaps in our infrastructure. We will firmly commit to building a world-class city where everyone enjoys a healthy, safe, and abundant life."
