이명수 후보 선거대책위원회 관계자는 "출마가 비교적 늦었음에도 짧은 기간 안에 공동 선두권 경쟁 구도를 형성한 것은 도민들이 교육의 명수, 행정의 명수로 불리는 이 후보의 독보적인 경륜과 경쟁력을 본격적으로 주목하기 시작한 객관적 결과"라고 진단했다. 특히 이 후보는 최근 조사에서 지지 후보 없음과 무응답을 합산한 부동층 비율이 약 60%에 달한다는 점에 주목하며 전방위적인 부동층 흡수 전략에 돌입했다. 이 후보는 "교육감 선거 특성상 아직 후보를 잘 모르거나 선거 자체에 관심을 갖지 못한 도민들이 많다"라며 "남은 선거기간 동안 도민들께 왜 이명수가 충남교육을 안정적이고 책임 있게 이끌 적임자인지를 진정성 있게 알린다면 충분히 압도적인 승리를 거둘 수 있을 것"이라고 확언했다.
공세적인 체질 개선 요구와 현 체제에 대한 날카로운 비판도 이어졌다. 이 후보는 충남 교육이 중대한 전환점에 서 있다고 규정하며, 지난 12년간 이어진 전교조 출신 진보 성향 교육감 체제 아래에서 누적된 학력 저하, 인성교육 약화, 지역 간 교육격차 심화 문제를 정조준했다. 그는 "지난 체제 동안 이 심각한 문제들에 대한 근본적인 해결은 전혀 이뤄지지 못했다"라며 "더 이상 실패한 교육체제를 반복해서는 안 되며, 또다시 전교조 출신 교육감 체제에 충남교육의 미래를 맡길 수 없다"라고 못을 박았다.
도덕성과 자질에 대한 검증 공세도 한층 거칠어졌다. 이 후보는 "교육장 자리를 돈을 받고 팔아 매관매직 뇌물 혐의로 전과 이력이 있는 후보자에게 충남교육을 맡길 수는 없다"고 강력히 규탄했다. 이어 "이제 충남교육은 낡은 이념 중심 교육에서 완전히 벗어나 학생 중심, 미래 중심 교육으로 나아가야 한다"라며 기초학력 회복, 인성교육 강화, 인공지능 and 디지털 기반 미래교육 구축, 지역 간 교육격차 해소, 교권 회복과 학교 안전 강화를 핵심 대안으로 선포했다.
이명수 후보는 "도민들께서는 단순한 정치적 구호가 아니라 누가 충남교육을 가장 안정적이고 책임 있게 이끌 수 있는지를 냉정하게 판단하고 계신다"라며 "그동안의 국회의원 경험과 행정 경험, 대학에서의 경험을 총동원해 무너진 충남교육을 반드시 바로 세우겠다"라고 약속했다.
비교적 늦은 출발이라는 물리적 한계를 딛고 지지율 공동 선두라는 파란을 일으킨 이 후보의 무서운 상승세는 이번 선거의 최대 변수다. 과거의 행정 전과 논란과 이념 교육의 피로감을 정면으로 파고들며 실무형 행정 경륜을 무기로 내세운 이 후보의 공세가 거대한 부동층의 표심을 결집해 충남 교육 권력의 세대교체를 완수하는 결정적 도화선이 될 수 있을지 주목된다.

Candidate Lee announced that although he started with relatively low awareness at the time of registration on March 13, he has successfully settled as the most viable key candidate in the Chungnam Education Superintendent election, displaying a sharp upward trend in various recent polls. In fact, following a tight pursuit with 16.1% in a poll conducted by Realmeter from May 4 to 5, he caused a massive stir by recording 12% in a subsequent poll conducted by Korea Research International from May 16 to 17, forming a joint lead alongside Candidate Lee Byeong-do.

Defining Chungnam education as standing at a critical turning point, Lee targeted the chronic decline in academic ability, weakening of personality education, and deepening regional educational gaps accumulated under the 12-year progressive superintendent system driven by former KTU (Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union) members. He pinned down, "Fundamental solutions to these serious problems were not achieved at all during the past regime. We must no longer repeat a failed educational system, and we cannot entrust the future of Chungnam education to a former KTU member superintendent system once again."
The verification offensive regarding morality and qualification grew even harsher. Lee strongly denounced, "We cannot entrust Chungnam education to a candidate who has a criminal record for selling superintendent positions for money under bribery charges of selling public offices." He added, "Now, Chungnam education must completely break away from old ideology-centered schooling and move toward student-centered, future-centered education," declaring basic academic recovery, strengthening personality education, building AI and digital-based future education, resolving regional educational disparities, and restoring teaching rights and school safety as his core alternatives.
Candidate Lee Myung-su stated, "Citizens are making cold judgments based on who can lead Chungnam education stably and responsibly, rather than on simple political slogans. I will mobilize all my National Assembly experience, administrative experience, and university experience to firmly rebuild the collapsed Chungnam education."
Candidate Lee's formidable upward trend, creating a sensation by tying for the lead despite a relatively late start, stands as the greatest variable in this election. Attention is focused on whether Lee's offensive—which directly pierces the fatigue over past administrative criminal controversies and ideological education while fielding seasoned administrative experience as a weapon—can rally the massive floating vote to complete a generational shift in Chungnam's educational power.
