Cheonan, the City of Bread, Recruits 'Bangbang Day' Baking Experience Teams... "Baking Walnut Snacks by Hand"
Accepting applications from 162 teams starting the 21st, randomized drawing... Prelude to the bread pilgrimage with 10% discount at partner bakeries.
May 21, 2026
[Cheonan/CTN] Reporter Kang Hyun-su = Cheonan City, South Korea's unrivaled "City of Bread," has officially launched the recruitment of participants for the baking experience program—the core content of its representative gourmet festival, '2026 Bread Pilgrimage Bangbang Day'—fluttering the hearts of bread lovers nationwide.
The city announced that ahead of the '2026 Bread Pilgrimage Bangbang Day' festival hosted and supervised by the Cheonan Branch of the Korea Bakery Association, it will grandly accept applications through the official website for a week from May 21 to 27 for the baking experience program where anyone can bake bread firsthand.
The Bangbang Day festival, which has successfully settled as the central region's top local gourmet brand over the years, will be held throughout Cheonan City for two days from June 13 to 14. During the festival period, participating bakeries across Cheonan will simultaneously offer a substantial 10% discount on bakery products and provide abundant giveaway gifts to visitors on a first-come, first-served basis, creating a massive urban bread pilgrimage boom.
The baking experience program, intensively deployed for a single day on June 13 (the first day of the festival), is elaborately designed into two courses: 'Making Walnut Snacks (Hodu-gwaja)' (72 teams), reflecting Cheonan's historical symbol, and 'Making Flowerpot Cakes' (90 teams) to accumulate emotional memories with children. A total of 162 elite teams will be selected from applicants nationwide.
Eligibility is open to anyone in the Republic of Korea, provided they form a team of 2 to 4 members including an adult leader (aged 18 or older). Citizens and tourists wishing to participate can submit an application form after a simple login on the 'Community - Recruitment of Experience Group' menu on Cheonan's official Bangbang Day website. Notably, the participation fee for this experience is conducted entirely free of charge from a public welfare perspective. To provide fair opportunities, final participants will be selected via a randomized computer drawing, with results announced on the website and via individual text messages on June 1.
Lee In-jae, Chief of the Cheonan Branch of the Korea Bakery Association, expressed his ambitions, stating, "We will do our absolute best in preparing festival hygiene and materials in cooperation with participating local bakeries so that we can widely publicize Cheonan's deeply historical and excellent bakery culture and the outstanding craftsmanship of local bakeries nationwide."
Kim Seok-pil, Vice Mayor and Acting Mayor of Cheonan, emphasized, "I hope that citizens and tourists step away from being mere passive consumers buying bread, and thoroughly enjoy the special value and deep flavor unique to Cheonan bread through a five-sense satisfying baking experience where they knead and bake firsthand." He added, "We look forward to the passionate interest and explosive participation of countless bread lovers across the nation."
