Seoul Invites Nominations for the 75th 'Seoul Metropolitan Government Culture Awards'
[CTN / Reporter Geum-hyun Ga] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will open public nominations for the "Seoul Metropolitan Government Culture Awards" from June 15 (Mon) to July 24 (Fri). The award aims to discover and honor individuals or groups who have significantly contributed to the cultural development and art promotion of Seoul.
First established in 1948, the "Seoul Metropolitan Government Culture Awards" is the city's flagship cultural award with a long history, having produced winners every year except during the Korean War. As of last year, a total of 765 individuals and organizations have received this prestigious award.
Past laureates include prominent figures such as late novelist Choi In-hun (Literature, 1979), late painter Park Seo-bo (Fine Arts, 1995), choreographer Ahn Eun-mi (Dance, 2019), and late theater director Kim Min-gi (Theater, 2024). Last year's winners included novelist Lee Kyung-ja, Korea National Ballet Artistic Director Kang Sue-jin, radio DJ Yang Hee-eun, and creator Kim Han-sol.
This year, up to 14 winners will be selected across 10 categories: Literature, Fine Arts, Traditional Korean Music, Western Music, Dance, Theater, Cultural Industry, Cultural Arts Patronage, Reading Culture, and Cultural Heritage. Depending on the applications received, some categories will be sub-divided into "Master Artists" and "Emerging Artists," allowing up to two winners per field.
To be eligible, individuals or organizations must have resided continuously in Seoul for at least three years as of the announcement date (June 15, 2026), or have their business or primary workplace located in Seoul.
Nominations can be submitted by institutions, organizations, or individual citizens. For individual citizen nominations, a candidate must be endorsed by at least 30 Seoul residents aged 19 or older.
Submissions are accepted both online and offline. Online submission is available via the Seoul Culture Portal website (culture.seoul.go.kr) or through mobile via QR code. Email, postal mail, and in-person submissions are also accepted. Application forms can be downloaded from the "Notice/Announcement" section on the Seoul Metropolitan Government website (www.seoul.go.kr). A signed consent form from the nominee must be enclosed.
The final winners will be selected through a rigorous process: a primary document screening by a preliminary evaluation committee, an online public vote via Seouls mobile voting system 'mVoting,' and a secondary review by the final evaluation committee. The winners will be announced in October, followed by an official ceremony.
"The Seoul Metropolitan Government Culture Award is a meaningful accolade that celebrates the dedication of individuals and groups who have shaped Seouls cultural landscape," said Kim Tae-hee, Director-General of the Seoul Culture Headquarters. "At a time when K-culture is capturing global attention, we hope citizens will actively participate and nominate cultural leaders who have built the prestige of 'Seoul, the City of Culture'."
